Course Description:
This 14-hour course is intended for physiotherapists who wish to deepen their knowledge and expertise in the assessment and treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD), including their interaction with the cervical region and retraining of the masticatory system.
Prerequisite: Temporomandibular Dysfunction: Treatment & Evaluation Level 1
Course Objectives:
• Briefly review and practice temporomandibular evaluation and basic treatment techniques using case studies.
• Address possible cervical compensations as related to TMD.
• Assess the function of the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve, including its neurodynamics.
• Become familiar with lingual (tongue) function, the various possible compensations during mastication and swallowing, and their functional impacts.
• Practice myofascial release treatment techniques, including for the anterior cervical chain.
• Learn a disc displacement reduction technique, as well as exercises for disc remodeling.
• Discover a general temporomandibular post-operative protocol.
• Further develop differential diagnosis and the associated treatment of TMD through more complex case studies.
